Pumpkin Hollow Pages Opt-In

Do you like Kirby, Mega-Man, and Metroid? Would you like them if they were a traumatized corporate soldier raised in a hellscape that boggles the imagination? Then welcome to the Pages Opt-In!
What are Pages?
The short answer is: they're the light behind your eyes that makes you who you are. Jean's canon is one in which they received power by extracting it from victims of the Library, enabling Jean to cosplay as said victims and adopt their strengths, weaknesses, and combat techniques. Here in Pumpkin Hollow, the strange intersection of Jean's magic and the island's has altered how they do this and what it might mean, but the core ideas remain the same: Jean can pillage looks, weapons, combat techniques, and inherent strengths and weaknesses from those they can extract a Page from, altering their look, generating clothes and weapons from the Light, and also adopting your gender.
How does Jean get Pages?
Per discussion with the mods before apping, Jean can extract Pages in two ways with some distinct differences. The first is that they might get them from your corpse, either by finding your body or, y'know, by killing you. Highly emotional deaths (in terror and rage, at the height of your triumph, if you somehow died in the middle of that good sex) are more likely to produce Pages; surprise attacks, deaths in your sleep, getting hypnotized into walking into something's mouth, etc are less likely.
The second way is by developing close and meaningful CR, for weal or for woe. This idea is new to Jean, and the resulting Page would be more about the relationship itself, embodying it like some manner of murderous Care Bear and resulting in strange new combat techniques that reify the CR rather than being pillaged from you directly.
What does your character lose if a Page is extracted?
Nothing directly! This is not the Library, you don't need to be turned into a book and become functionally dead. However, it does mean someone is out here using some of your power set, and maybe combining it with others. This is part of the reason for the opt-in! If you'd prefer your character remain strictly unique, or don't like the idea of someone being able to, say, frame you by using your powers, well, here we are.
If you're open to, or actively interested in, getting Pages extracted from your character please Opt-In here by replying! Questions, comments, and such are extremely welcome, as are expressions of specific interest if you've got 'em!

Date: 2023-06-23 05:17 pm (UTC)You can get creative with it, but notable physical changes you might pick up are the fangs (duh), pale pallor, cold to the touch, no longer needs to breathe/eat/sleep, lack of pulse, rapid healing, taste for blood, inability to taste anything BUT blood, potentially the bloodlust beast issues, super speed/strength/extra sharp senses, maybe shape shifting to animals if you wanna get spicy. I'm on the fence about letting him have the ability to heal with his blood, I might wanna hoard that one.
Fingers crossed they hit it off well and maybe a page can form from their CR too. I'm here for all of it.

Date: 2023-06-23 05:28 pm (UTC)When a Librarian is wearing Elena there they get access to her signature claws, the passives of her really good armor (obviously not an option here), and her ability to heal from every hit she deals to someone that's bleeding. Pages are more cosplay than exact copying (Kirby is still Kirby when he's wearing a hat, for an instructive example) so! My thoughtlines are:
- Attacks that incorporate partial or complete shapeshifting
- Weak to slashing/gouging (transpose the eye weakness), strong against crushing & piercing
- Just kinda passively Faster, possibly specifically better against things That Have Blood
- Erik's taste in expensive suits
- Sensory enhancements
Thoughts?

Date: 2023-06-23 06:14 pm (UTC)Lucas is a Medium, which in his canon means he has three notable abilities that Jean can use:
- Retrocognition: the ability to see past events or memories. This is done through touch or being physically present in a location, touching a person, or holding an object. It's easier to pick up on more recent memories or highly emotionally charged ones. memories from an object or location are viewed like a movie, a memory from a person is as if Lucas experienced it himself. Lucas has training to deal with these extra memories that Jean won't have so...have fun with the extra trauma?
- Extra Sensory Perception: He can see the spooks as plain as regular people. In Pumpkin Hollow this means he CAN see the spirits of anyone (player characters included) who dies.
- Telekinesis: Anything under fifteen pounds and not under control of another person (so Jean couldn't rip a weapon out of someone's hand unless they had a really loose grip, for instance)
He has also some basic hand to hand, and training in firearms if any of those would be fun to play around with!
Retrocognition might be really interesting to play around with, especially so Jean could learn to deal with doing those readings eventually?

Date: 2023-06-23 06:23 pm (UTC)Firearms training is valuable in a sense but might also take warming up to; Jean has anxieties about running out of ammunition and also the bit where people in the City will, at times, just parry & dodge an entire supply of bullets and then kick you in the face hard enough to shatter your spine to dust. Some of those anxieties are because that's how they handle people with guns! The martial arts of that hellscape go a bit ham.
So, thoughtlines:
- Telekinetic martial arts (pull them by the shirt into a hit, trip people with loose branches, etc)
- No particular defenses or weaknesses? Unless Lucas is out here regularly swanking around in armor I guess
- Uncontrolled retrocognition, likely significantly distressing at first, Jean may believe they're being attacked by a cognitohazard
- "What do you mean the ghosts are usually invisible? What kind of super ghosts y'all got here???"

Date: 2023-06-25 01:59 pm (UTC)Combining telekinesis with martial arts is always fun, Lucas has definitely used it to trip people or critters up, but I consider clothing to fall under the person's control clause personally. Too close to their skin? Regardless, just so it's kind of balanced!
Weakness: Lucas can and does wear himself out, especially using retrocognition. There's also a decent chance of losing yourself in a memory, especially untrained. :D In IOPSA Mediums are assigned a Guide, someone without supernatural abilities to kind of act as an anchor. Lucas will get warning headaches if he uses the ability too much or for too long, and if his eyes close fully/nose bleeds when doing a reading that means he's about to pass out. A few Mediums have also becoming permanently mired in memories so that's a fun thing that can happen too!
They gotta chat sometime about the ghosts, too. Oh man, the differences are so much fun!

Date: 2023-06-26 12:21 am (UTC)formercat cafe operator and gain the power of cats! And coffee! And brain friends? No idea if a Page would notice plurality directly, but it feels like it would have an effect on the gender aspect - Beatrix is transfem, but Sasha and Jonas are not.Re: Opt-in for Wildfire
Date: 2023-06-26 02:32 am (UTC)The canon doesn't address plurality, either in general or in the specific; the closest LoR has to a system is the Musicians of Bremen, who just like, aren't; they're an amalgamation of three separate people who were trying to become art itself and fucked it up pretty hardcore. That said, the Pages and cards drawn from the Musicians also don't address the amalgam itself either, instead aping their combat abilities and general buff/debuff style.
So I guess the question is, what would you be looking to see from getting a Kirby-brand imitation?

Date: 2023-08-24 12:41 am (UTC)Besides the, yanno, being made of metal and having armor and all that (I can get a bit more into physiology if it's important!), Nightshade can also transform into a big robotic owl, as well as doing more mild semi-transformations to pull out a battle mask and/or "feathers" along their arms, and can bring out or hide their wings at will (like so). Their "weaponry" is oddly almost instinctual; their wings/feathers and talons are sharp, obviously, but they can also make their wings/feathers glow green and fling/shoot that energy (like so). They can also turn their eyes/lights red instead of green, which I'm pretty sure comes with some sort of night vision since a)owl and b)they only do it the once at night.
Jury is out on whether they can make their head do a full 180-degree rotation. They can, of course, also fly, both in owl mode and in their regular form; they seem to need to have their wings out to fly but who knows if that'd be a thing for Jean. They can pick up and carry more than one might think they can pretty easily. Finally, they can take a LOT of punishment, as can all Transformers in their universe; they take a few missiles in the final fight and just kinda shrug it off.
Nightshade is also, as an individual, incredibly smart, inclined towards science and inventing (and also science fiction novels). Also loves cute animals.
If and when Nightshade dies, Jean is free to get a Page from their corpse, but I'd also be super happy to form meaningful CR and give them a Page that way!
